GFCI outlets in baths and kitchens are basic for electrical safety around water. They are inexpensive and easy to install.

Switches that don't always work, outlets with extension cords and old-fashioned fuse boxes are signals that your electrical wiring needs attention. Statistically, the most frequent cause of residential fire is faulty electrical wiring.

Plastic plugs for outlets are an excellent idea where there are small children in the home.

Don't ever subject an extension or electrical cord to weight from furniture or pressure from something resting on it. The resultant overheating, caused by restricting the flow of electricity, is a fire hazard.

When installing sidewalks, driveways, or stone patios or walls, request that your mason put underground sleeves in place for future lighting, sprinkler systems, security gates, etc.

The best time to install new lighting, add switches or fixtures, is before the painters or paperhangers arrive! Please give us as much notice as you can.

If you are renovating the first floor of your home, it's a good idea to 'set up' the second floor for future installations (additional cable, phone, Internet etc.) Because the walls are open, access to the rooms above is readily available.

Clear the worksite before your electricians arrive. Why pay us for the time it takes them to move furniture and cover your belongings?

Selling Your Home? Please Note!

The NY and CT Board of Fire Underwriters require that any existing electrical modifications or additions, not listed on the house survey, must be inspected and brought to Code before a new Certificate of Occupancy will be issued.

This requires that an electrician give the Town inspector access to all new installations in order that a visual inspection can be made. Defects must be corrected before re-inspection can occur and a certificate can be issued.

Given the limited availability of inspectors and the urgency of getting the new C/O in a timely fashion, our good working relationship with Towns, Utilities and Inspectors is invaluable. In addition, our office staff keeps track of the process.
